Interdisciplinary Theology
By interdisciplinary theology we mean here the study of theology in connection to other fields of study in science or arts such as philosophy, sociology, cosmology, psychology, technology and etc. It is different from practical or applied theology in this that it doesn't concern practical issues of the Christian faith but links theological studies with other sciences (in the broad sense).
This will be an increasing list of sites and we will review also books as the list grows.
Creation or / and Evolution
Here we will try to give all available viewpoints on the creation / evolution debates. Often sites will have repudiating views so please excuse us for citing here viewpoints that in practice contradict each other. We are placing this links for the purpose of exhaustiveness not to offer you a ready solution what to believe. The sites listed here are representative. We will be working on a more exhaustive list which is a hard work ...
Notice !!! The Theology Gateway DOES NOT maintain that deistic evolution and atheistic natural evolution are compatible at all with a Christian world-view neither with Christian theology. This are placed here for sake of exhaustiveness.
Young Earth Creationism
www.AnswersInGenesis.org The site states: "We focus
particularly on providing answers to questions surrounding the book of
Genesis, as it is the most-attacked book of the Bible. We also desire
to train others to develop a biblical world-view, and seek to expose the
bankruptcy of evolutionary ideas, and its bedfellow, a “millions of
years old” earth (and even older universe)."
Old Earth Creationism
www.AnswersInCreation.org The site states: "Welcome to Answers In Creation, a creation science ministry dedicated to supporting old earth creationism. Because of the false teachings of young earth creationism, many people do not realize that a Christian can believe in an inerrant Bible, a literal translation of Genesis, and believe that God created the world over a period of billions of years."
Intelligent Design
www.IntelligentDesign.org The site states: "The theory of intelligent design holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection."
Theistic Evolution
www.TheisticEvolution.org The site states: "There are two perspectives to the creation/evolution controversy: Theological Perspective, Scientific Perspective. Both perspectives are covered in detail on this site, and done so with the understanding that the root of the entire creation/evolution controversy may be a theological issue. When onclusions from both perspectives are combined, Theistic Evolution becomes a highly probable theory."
Deistic Evolution
While theistic evolution believes in a God which works through the evolutionary process and interacts with the universe, deistic evolution on the other hand speaks of a creator who created the universe and then let it go on its own without interacting with it. The main metaphor here is the watch mechanism. Charles Darwin himself let a possibility a creator to create the universe in the beginning and then let it evolve in what we know today. So deistic evolution is just one step away from agnosticism and atheism.
Atheistic Natural Evolution
No entries yet. To be developed. Here we will try to put links to books by agnostics or atheists and their understanding of evolution for the sake of exhaustiveness.
Evolution in General
Evolution.Berkeley.edu A good starting point to learn about the theory of evolution from a scientific point of view. There is a good section on the history of evolutionary thought. Even if one doesn't believe in evolution it would be good to know enough about the theory.
Darwin, Charles. The Origin of Species (1859, Edition: 1909) People should read Darwin before they trust in him or criticize him. This is what he really wrote. As a whole the thought of Darwin is compatible with atheism, deistic evolution and maybe theistic evolution. However there are many changes in recent evolutionary theories that differ from Darwin's theory.
Psychology
Stratton, George Malcolm. Psychology of the Religious Life (1911)
Stalker, James. Christian Psychology (1914)
Pym, Thomas Wentworth. Psychology and the Christian life (1922)
Barry. F.R. Christianity And Psychology. Lectures Towards an Introduction (1923)
Avdeev, D. A. Orthodox Psychotherapy (Read on-line)
Cosmology, Physics
www.TechnoTheology.org This is a very interesting site by W.J.Laudeman. As the author says: "The Technotheology Project (TTP) is an ongoing study which I began in 1994 to examine the relationship between our present knowledge of quantum physics, cosmology, and the theory of Chaos." The perspective of the project is Orthodox Roman-Catholic. These is a must to see site.
